DaDong here. Colombia vs Portugal, and I’m backing over 2.5 goals.
In my opinion, this is a pretty easy match to read. Two teams that can score, and two defenses that can be got at. Let me explain.
First, mentality. Colombia is a proud football nation. They do not park the bus; it is not in their blood. When they face a big European team like Portugal, they want to show they belong on the same pitch. They will attack, they will press, they will take risks. Diaz on the left is a constant threat, and in one-on-one situations he can beat anyone. Colombia will create chances, I’m sure of it.
Portugal, same story. Too much firepower to sit back. Ronaldo still wants goals, but look around him. Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Leao — these guys are all match-winners. Portugal play front-foot football under Martinez. High press, quick transitions, lots of bodies in the box. They do not play for 1-0. They play to entertain and dominate. Against Colombia, they will need to score at least two to feel safe, because Colombia can hurt them the other way.
Tactically, this is what I see. Portugal’s midfield is very creative but can be a bit open when they lose the ball. Colombia are excellent in transition. Win the ball, make two or three passes, and suddenly Diaz or the striker is running at the back line. Portugal’s center-backs — Pepe is old, Dias is excellent but not the fastest. They can be exposed by pace on the counter. I think Colombia score.
But Colombia’s defense is not solid either. They concede goals. In World Cup qualifying, they have kept some clean sheets, but they have also had games where they looked shaky against good attacking teams. Portugal’s movement in the final third, the through balls from Bruno, the dribbling from Leao — this is a nightmare for defenders who are not perfectly organized. Portugal will get their goals too.
So when I put it all together, I see both teams scoring. A 2-1 or 2-2 type of match. Over 2.5 only needs three goals, and with these two attacks on the pitch, I think that happens more often than not. The line is fair, not cheap, but the matchup justifies it.
One more thing: set pieces. Both teams have height and good delivery. Portugal with Ronaldo and Dias attacking crosses, Colombia with their center-backs who are strong in the air. Corners and free kicks can easily add to the total in this kind of open game.
DaDong says over 2.5 goals. That is how I see it. Hej!
