According to Italian media reports, Italian Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi wants Paolo Maldini to serve as President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

After the Italian national team once again failed to qualify for the World Cup, FIGC President Gabriele Gravina resigned, taking responsibility for the failure. The FIGC management will undergo changes, with the federation's council scheduled to hold a meeting on June 22 to determine the next leader of Italian football.
There are internal divisions within the Italian government over Giovanni Malagò becoming FIGC President. Minister Abodi is evaluating other candidates and hopes Maldini will take the position. Initial contact has been made between the two parties. While Maldini has considered the offer, he is currently reluctant to accept the appointment, feeling he cannot truly exert influence or shape the future of Italian football under the current circumstances.
