The transfer of SS Lazio defender Alessio Romagnoli to Qatari side Al-Sadd SC has fallen through due to timing issues, leaving the player extremely dissatisfied.

An agreement had originally been reached, with both parties signing the documents more than half an hour before the Qatari transfer market closed, demonstrating their mutual intent to complete the deal smoothly.

The deal was set at a fee of €10 million, with the player set to earn an annual salary of €6 million. However, the contract was not submitted in a timely manner, meaning the transfer could not be ratified.

Alessio Romagnoli, who had been on track to double his salary, is furious. The Biancocelesti had previously opened negotiations for Diogo Leite and Daniele Rugani as potential replacements, and all those plans have now come to nothing.

Romagnoli, who has been on paternity leave since Tuesday, is now forced to stay at Lazio against his wishes. His contract runs until 2027, but his relationship with the club has plummeted to an all-time low.
