About Ligue 1Ligue 1 is France's professional football league and the top tier of France's football league system. It is managed by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), with 18 clubs participating, and operates a promotion and relegation system with Ligue 2. The season runs from August to May. Each club plays two matches against every other team in the league—one at home and one away—totaling 34 matches over the course of the season. Most matches are held on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few taking place on weekday evenings.
